ENTRANCE EXAMS
- Take the ASSET Numerical skills test or COMPASS math test or utilize the enhanced ACT mathematics score to determine math placement (tests are waived for the applicants who have completed (a grade of "C" or above) the appropriate level of math class.)
- ASSET Numerical score of 38 or below: take the appropriate developmental math class, using math placement schedule (progressing through a minimum of Beginning Algebra). Admission to the program will be contingent on successful completion (a grade of "C" or above) of the appropriate course before enrollment into the program.
- ASSET Numerical score of 39 or above: the applicant can proceed in the admission process.
- COMPASS Pre-Algebra score of 100 or below or COMPASS Algebra score of 45 or below: take the appropriate developmental math class, using math placement schedule (progressing through a minimum of Beginning Algebra). Admission to the program will be contingent on successful completion (a grade of "C" or above) of the appropriate course before enrollment into the program.
- COMPASS Pre-Algebra score of 100 or above or COMPASS Algebra score of 46 or above: the applicant can proceed in the admission process.
- Enhanced ACT mathematics score of 17 or below: take the appropriate developmental math class, using math placement schedule (progressing through a minimum of Beginning Algebra). Admission to the program will be contingent on successful completion (a grade of "C" or above) of the appropriate course before enrollment into the program.
- Enhanced ACT mathematics score of 18 or above: the applicant can proceed in the admission process.
- Take the ASSET Writing and ASSET Reading tests or the COMPASS Writing and Reading tests to determine English and Psychology placement (tests are waived for applicants who have completed (a grade of "C" or above) the appropriate level of writing and reading classes).
- ASSET Writing plus ASSET Reading score below 80: take the appropriate developmental English and Reading classes progressing through a minimum of Writing Skills IV and Reading Skills II. Admission to the program will be contingent on successful completion (a grade of "C" or above) of the appropriate course/courses before enrollment into the program.
- ASSET Writing plus ASSET Reading score of 80 or above (Reading score must be 39 or above), the applicant can proceed in the admission process.
- COMPASS Writing score of 69 or below and COMPASS Reading score of 80 or below: take the appropriate developmental writing class(es) progressing through a minimum of Writing Skills IV and/or take the appropriate developmental reading class(es) progressing through a minimum of Reading Skills II. Admission to the program will be contingent on successful completion (a grade of "C" or above) of the appropriate course(s) before enrollment into the program.
- COMPASS Writing score of 70 or above and a COMPASS Reading score of 81 or above: the applicant can proceed in the admission process.
- Enhanced ACT English score and Reading score of 17 or below: take the appropriate developmental writing and/or reading class(es), using the writing/reading placement schedule (progressing through a minimum of Writing Skills IV and Reading Skills II). Admission to the program will be contingent on successful completion (a grade of "C" or above) of the appropriate course(s) before enrollment into the program.
- Enhanced ACT English and Reading score of 18 or above: the applicant can proceed in the admission process.
- After meeting requirements of step #6 and step #7
- Nursing applicants take the NET (Nurse Entrance Test).
- These tests may be taken only one time yearly.
CHALLENGE EXAM
- Applicants to the ADN (RN) program who have graduated from another state, take the LPN Assessment exam or the ATI PN Comprehensive Predictor exam.
- Those who receive a composite final score at or above the national passing score as identified on the LPN Assessment exam results or receive an overall percentage of 53% or above on the ATI PN Comprehensive exam will continue in the admission process.
- Those who do not receive a passing score are referred to the Director of Nursing for guidance.
CONSULTATION
10. Applicant meets with the Financial Aid Director to discuss financial aid, and signs and submits the "Financial Aid Interview Form" to the Epworth Allied Health Education Center.
INTERVIEW
- After receiving the admission forms, health record, transcripts, references, financial aid interview verification form, employment verification form, technical standards policy, and after successfully completing the ASSET, COMPASS, or Enhanced ACT, NET, and LPN Assessment (if applicable) exams, the secretary will schedule an interview for the applicant with a faculty member. A cumulative score of 31 points from the Admission Evaluation Criteria Point System must be obtained to receive an interview (PN applicant only). The applicant is notified by mail or telephone of the date and time of the appointment. A structured interview guide is utilized for point allocation. No interviews will be scheduled until all admission criteria have been met.
SELECTION PROCESS
12. The selection process occurs as follows:
a. The data from the completed forms, the NET, transcripts, references and interview is transferred to the Admission Evaluation Tabulation form and the tabulation score is computed. The applicants are then ranked in order of their scores.
b. The faculty Admission/Progression Committee meets during March and as needed to review the applicants' files, their tabulation scores, and ranking status.
c. The Allied Health Admission Committee meets during March and as needed to review the recommendations of the Nursing Admission/Progression Committee. Decisions are made to admit, defer, or reject each recommendation.
d. The applicants will be notified by mail of their acceptance, deferral, or rejection status by the middle of April.
e. SCCC first year nursing students meeting promotion criteria will progress to second year without a separate admission process. The student will be required to submit a letter of intent to the Director of Nursing no later than February 1 of each year.
READMISSION PROCESS
13. For students who have previously been in the nursing program, readmission to the program can be sought as follows (this readmission will be subject to openings in the class to which admission is being sought)
a. Readmission will require completion of the entire application process as described in step 12.
b. Re-admissions to each level will review and demonstrate the following competencies: math competency-90% competency mastery (maximum of 2 retakes), and basic medication knowledge quiz (ADN applicants only)- 90% competency mastery (maximum of one re-take).
c. Applicants for readmission who have not attended the nursing program within the last three years must repeat the entire program.
d. Complete other admission requests at the discretion of the director of the program.
e. For admission to the spring semester, the specific program faculty will meet in December and review the applicant's past admission records and the above forms. A recommendation will be made regarding acceptance into the program for the following semester.
f. The Allied Health Admission Committee will meet in December to review the recommendations of the faculty and a decision regarding the selection will be made at this time.
g. The applicant will be notified by mail of their acceptance, deferral, or rejection status.
