Admission

Seward County Community College offers two programs in nursing: the Practical Nursing program and the Associate Degree Nursing program.

The two programs are viewed as separate, although the Practical Nursing program can serve as the first year of the Associate Degree program.

One class of 30 students is admitted to the Practical Nursing program each year for the fall semester. One class of 30 students is admitted to the Associate Degree program in the fall semester each year. Separate application is required for each program.

Application materials are accepted from December 1st, and the application process must be completed on or before March 10.

In addition to the admission procedures of the college, a separate admission procedure is required for nursing students. This procedure is as follows:

  1. Complete the following forms:
    1. SCCC Application for Admission Form
    2. Application to Allied Health Division
    3. Health Record Form
    4. Misdemeanor/Felony Form
    5. Technical Standards Policy
    6. Employment Verification Form
    7. Reference Forms
  2. Submit an official transcript from an accredited high school or GED scores.
  3. Submit an official transcript of previous college credits.
  4. Obtain three references (see guidelines on reference form).
  5. Take the nursing program entrance examinations.
  6. Interview with Financial Aid Office personnel.
  7. If applying to Associate Degree Nursing program and are a graduate of a Practical Nursing program from another state, take the challenge examinations (see Transfer & Advance Standing Policy).
  8. Interview with a nursing faculty member.
  9. Completion of steps 1-8 qualifies an applicant to be considered for admission by the Nursing Admission/Progression and Allied Health Admissions Committees.
  10. Complete the Health Protection Form(must be on file with the nursing secretary before the first day of class.)
  11. Submit proof of work experience, if applicable.

If desired, a student may take any of the required general education courses prior to seeking admission to the nursing program. Admission to either program means that a student is eligible to take the specific nursing courses designated for the program to which admission was received. Any falsification of information provided during the admission process may affect your eligibility for admission.
